Searching the deaths
Enter the deceased person's name into the boxes. One given name or first initial is optional.
If used, the optional death date must be formatted as yyyy-mm-dd for the exact date (eg 1839-03-27), yyyy-mm for the month, or yyyy for the year only.
If you do not get the expected results, read the more detailed help article on advanced searching of our databases.
Death Notes
The place is usually the last residence, which may not be the death place. If no place is recorded, the registration district may be abbreviated within brackets to give an indication of location. Adelaide is often abbreviated to Ade.
Most of the death records prior to civil registration are from burial registers. If no death date was given, the burial date is used.
Married women's maiden names have sometimes been determined.
The named relative is usually the informant.
If the death you require is not in this database, search for other SA death resources.
Death Sources
The major sources of these death records were the (Holy) Trinity Church burial register, the West Terrace and Hindmarsh Cemetery burial registers and the South Australian Deaths Registrations 1842 to 1915, SA Genealogy & Heraldry Soc, 2000 as well as other church burial registers and newspapers of the day.
