Death Notes
The place is usually the last residence, which may not be the death place. If the place is not recorded, the registration district is abbreviated within brackets to give an indication of location.
Most of the death records prior to civil registration are from burial registers. If there is no death date, the burial date is used, which is usually within a few days of death.
Registered deaths in 1842-48 are incomplete at present and are being added as time permits.
If the death you require is not in this database you may wish to search for other SA death resources.
Death Sources
The major sources of these death records are the (Holy) Trinity Church burial register, the West Terrace Cemetery burial register and the South Australian Deaths Registrations 1842 to 1915, SA Genealogy & Heraldry Soc, 2000. Newspapers of the day are also being consulted.
Deaths before civil registration commenced and others not submitted to the Registrar of Births, Deaths & Marriages are being included. Also, married women's maiden names have sometimes been determined.
